Hello Everyone and welcome to my page! I am Emily Samppala your 2012 Michigan High School Rodeo Association Queen and student board representative. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me through my reign. It is an honor and privilege to represent such a great organization.
As your queen I have had the pleasure to attend not only our association rodeos but others as well. My biggest adventure so far was attending the National High School Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Myself, along with my fellow teammates traveled many miles to represent our state and team. Thanks to all Mom, Dads & MHSRA board members for making this a great experience for all of us.
As your queen I had tried to represent and promote MHSRA to the best of my ability. So far this year I have been to the Great Lakes Rodeo, U.P. championship Rodeo (PRCA), Marquette County Fair, U.P. State Fair and Celebration of the Horse in Metamora. But my travels don’t stop there. Since we are only half way through our 2012-2013 season there is still time for you to join me in being a member of MHSRA.
MHSRA offers all the rodeo events: Calf Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing, Bareback Bronc Riding, Pole Bending, Bull Riding, Goat Tying, Cutting and the Queen's Contest. MHSRA has 2 age divisions Jr. High 6th-8th grade and High School 8th-12th grade. The rodeo season typically starts in August and ends in June with our State Finals rodeo at Tom's Western Store in Ovid, MI. Even though we don’t hold rodeos through the “winter months” we are busy with other activities include cowboy prom, a special needs rodeo, horse expos and community service opportunities.
Please, join me and my teammates in having fun and living our western heritage. The life lesson we learn today will carry us through to tomorrow and beyond. Let us welcome you to our “family” and the great sport of Rodeo.
Love, laughs and smiles –
Emilie
