Welcome to Michigan High School Rodeo!
My name is Jessalyn Gingrich and I am proud to represent the great sport of rodeo as the 2011-2012 Miss Michigan High School Rodeo
queen. I am a senior at Grand Rapids Christian High School and I compete in Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, Pole Bending, and
Barrel Racing. I have been competing in Michigan High School rodeo since I was in the 6th grade.
The Michigan High School Rodeo Association (MHSRA) provides a great opportunity for kids to not only compete in an All-American sport,
but rewards them with scholarship money for additional education after high school. Rodeo teaches life lessons in sportsmanship,
responsibility, and teamwork. It is the only sport where competitors actually help each other succeed by loaning a horse, equipment, or
helping lead a rival's horse to the arena…it is a character building experience!
MHSRA has 2 age divisions…Jr. High 6th-8th grade and High School 8th-12th grade. It is not affiliated with any specific High School
(anyone in the above age groups may join). The rodeo season typically starts in August and ends in June with our State Finals rodeo at
Tom's Western Store in Ovid, MI. After the season's points are totaled, the top 4 contestants in each event qualify to compete against
qualifying contestants in the rest of the US, Canada, and even Australia at the High School National Finals Rodeo…the World's Largest
Rodeo!
Rodeo Events include:
Calf Roping, Team Roping
Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping
Saddle Bronc Riding, Barrel Racing
Bareback Bronc Riding, Pole Bending
Bull Riding, Goat Tying
Cutting, Queen's Contest
Rodeo is awesome in and out of the arena. Other activities include cowboy prom, a special needs rodeo, horse expos and community service
opportunities. We camp overnight when we have 2 day rodeos and you never know what impromptu fun might occur (mud volleyball, barn
dances, or campfires)
If you love competition and making new friends from around the state and country, please consider joining an amazing family called Michigan
High School Rodeo.
Join us in the arena or in the stands and see why High School Rodeo is the most fun you can have on dirt!
